On this week’s episode of Flipped, (not a house restoration reality show), a little is A LOT!
Jesus takes a LITTLE boy’s lunch with a LITTLE food, 5 small loaves and 2 fish, and turns it into a heaping helping for more than at least 5000 people, and has leftovers! (Matt 14)
God uses Elijah and takes a LITTLE flour and a LITTLE oil to make a LITTLE cake and then multiplies it exponentially to feed a widow and her family during a terrible drought and famine. (1 Kings 17)
In the upside-down kingdom of God, human measurements, numbers, expectations, and understanding get a total rewiring. God functions on a different level and in the economy of God, dollars don’t make sense!
I recently heard this phrase and I like its truth: God doesn’t NEED your resources; he WANTS your obedience.
God is more interested in our faith and follow-through than he is in our finances or furnishings. In world of control, power, and self-made go-getters, this is a hard flip in perspective and practice.
This is however, the character, beauty, and power of God. It’s the nature of tithing that is found throughout scripture. This is instituted by God to be a faith practice and is not a religious construct or even financial constitution, although it has implications for both.
God is in the business of multiplication and exponents, and it takes our LITTLE bit to see it happen.
How is God calling you to trust him with the LITTLE that you have? What can you give so that God can multiply it for His kingdom? Is there something you are holding onto too tightly that you need to stop putting your faith into and start looking to God for that security instead?
See what God can do with your LITTLE today! Give and watch God GO BIG!
